Jufei Optoelectronics acquired S/CASN phosphor patent family from Panasonic

2023-10-18

Recently, Jufei Optoelectronics (JFO) acquired a set of patent families related to S/CASN phosphors from Panasonic Corporation of Japan.

It is reported that this patent family includes 37 patents from various countries, and the scope of patent rights covers various countries and regions around the world, such as the United States, Europe Union, Germany, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.

CASN phosphor Patent cover areas

CASN phosphor is a nitride red phosphor with a molecular formula of CaAlSiN3. Its chemical formula atomic coefficient is 1113, so it is referred to as 1113 phosphor. It can be used with blue LED chips and green phosphors to produce white light and is widely used in lighting and backlight products, which can fully cover consumer-grade and automotive-grade products.

In addition to Japan’s NIMS (National Institute for Materials Science) and Mitsubishi Corporation holding some core patents for CASN phosphors, another part of the core patents were originally held by Panasonic Corporation. Panasonic has now reached a patent transfer agreement with Jufei Optoelectronics, transferring all its CASN core patents to JFO.

It is worth noting that JFO has obtained the CASN phosphor application patent license from Japan’s NIMS as early as October 2019, and now has obtained the CASN phosphor patent transferred by Panasonic. JFO has accumulated sufficient intellectual property rights in CASN phosphors which will pave the way for its promotion of CASN phosphors in the lighting and backlight application.

CASN phosphor patent transaction

The latest acquisitions not only enhance JFO’s conventional businesses such as lighting LEDs and backlight LED, but also boosts new businesses such as automotive LEDs, Mini/Micro LEDs, invisible light, and high-end lighting.

In the first half of the 2023 financial year, JFO achieved total operating income of 1.157 billion yuan, an increase of 7.97% over the same period last year; net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 118 million yuan, an increase of 5.75% over the same period last year. Among them, JFO’s  LED products achieved sales revenue of 1.063 billion yuan, an increase of 9.86% over the same period last year, accounting for 91.86% of operating revenue, and the comprehensive product yield rate reached 99.285%.

In terms of Mini LED, JFO said that the shipment volume of related new products has maintained rapid growth and has become an important driving force for the company’s growth.

In terms of vehicle mount displays, JFO’s automotive-grade backlight LEDs have entered the world’s major automotive module supply chain, and external automotive lighting LED products have entered the resource pool of major domestic brands of cars. The company’s series of high-power in-vehicle lighting products have been gradually used in high and low beams and daytime running lights. JFO has also developed a series of Mini LED backlights for automotive displays with ultra-high color gamut and low-blue-light, eye-protection. The Mini LED series have been adopted by Li Auto in all models for automotive displays such as HUDs, dashboards, central infotainment systems and rearview mirror displays.

For example, there is one safety driving interactive screen installed on the steering wheel in Li Auto’s SUV L9. It adopts JFO’s automotive-grade Mini LED display technology with integrated driver and local dimming. The resolution is 800*166. There are 186 single-light independent zones, ultra-low OD technology to achieve high reliability, high contrast, and excellent display effects while ensuring low power consumption.

Jufei Optoelectronics acquires patent of lens from Panasonic Corporation of Japan

2023-11-09

Recently, Jufei Optoelectronics (JFO) acquired a patent family on LED light bar lenses from Panasonic Corporation of Japan, including 9 U.S. patents and their global patent families. It is worth noting that this patent family is valid until 2032, which is creating a comprehensive road map for JFO’s lens patent package in the next 10 years.

Lens U.S. Patent

According to reports, the lens patents obtained by JFO this time include refractive lens and reflective lens technologies, which can be applied to JFO’s direct-lit backlight series. Up till now, JFO has built a pool of lens patent through R&D investment and acquisitions from international suppliers.

Lens on LED Bar

LED light bars and strips are widely used as backlight sources for large-size LCD products such as TVs. LED light strip lenses are used to diffuse the light emitted by LED devices to a flat surface. They are an important component of large-size LCD products. The optical quality of the lens directly affects the quality of the backlight source.

Through this patent transaction with Panasonic, JFO can not only provide customers with high-quality backlight sources, but also have greater advantages in intellectual property protection and enhance their ability to resist risks.
